SANTA FE – In New Mexico, the high price of a liquor licenses hinders many local restaurant owners from purchasing a full liquor license. With a price range of up to $1 million, national chain restaurants seem to be some of the only establishments who can afford to operate in the state with a full bar.

  • Tax-Free Transfers to Charity Renewed For IRS Owners 701/2 or Older

PHOENIX – Certain owners of individual retirement arrangements (IRAs) have a limited time to make tax-free transfers to eligible charities and have them count for tax-year 2014, the Internal Revenue Service said today.

IRA owners age 70½ or older have until Wednesday, Dec. 31 to make a direct transfer of part or all of their IRA distributions to an eligible charity.

The Tax Increase Prevention Act, enacted Dec. 19, extended for 2014 the provision authorizing these qualified charitable distributions (QCDs). Read More

PHOENIX – The Internal Revenue Service wants taxpayers to know they have some time left to make any final tax moves for the 2014 tax year.

From the very beginning, the Los Alamos Beer Co-op was designed to be a place-holder name. The organizers knew that as they approached the opening of New Mexico’s first cooperative brewery, they would have to undertake a new naming campaign to establish a vibrant, iconic brand for the new brewery.

The co-op will always be the LABC, but the brewery and taproom deserves a name and a brand that better represents the town and the unique organization. However, that original name is included as one of the choices as some of the LABC members prefer this option.
