Congratulations on a very successful first day of school. By all accounts, the 2017-18 school year for Los Alamos Public Schools is off to an outstanding beginning.

I was fortunate to visit every school today and observed many warm greetings, beautiful classrooms, and caring adults helping students find solutions to first-day challenges.

Here is wisdom that I learned today from some of our elementary students about the most important things to bring to school:

• Yourself;
• A Smile;
• Listening Ears;
• Pencils; and
• Fun Attitude.

Now … let’s build upon that growth mindset, keep the momentum moving forward, and enjoy. LAPS Rocks!
