NHCC News:ALBUQUERQUE ― The National Hispanic Cultural Center (NHCC) is looking for people and organizations that are interested in participating in a multi-year project funded through a grant from the W.K. Kellogg Foundation to bring our community together to work through the deep historical and contemporary issues that falsely divide us by race, gender and more.
The project, called Our Truth, is meant to give value and meaning to the lived stories of our New Mexico community; bring heightened awareness of racial divides and inequalities in a non-data, non-dogmatic, non-partisan way, that relies on the experiences of people and families to tell a story of human pain and struggle; and helping to navigate ways to heal and move forward together.
The NHCC’s overarching goal is to facilitate community dialogues and commissioned artwork that grapples with issue of race equity through theatre, music, dance, visual arts, circus arts, poetry, literary arts, film, mixed media and more-all with the intention and aim of validating community experiences and making them accessible and audible for an audience not otherwise engaged in race equity issues. The project will run from 2018-2019, with 2017 serving as the planning year.
During this planning phase of the project the NHCC is gathering a list of community organizations and individuals of all backgrounds, identities and ages, to participate in the planning, community dialogues, artwork creation and artwork presentation.
