COUNTY News:
- Urban Trail Phase I & II Multi-Use Trail Project
The segment of Canyon Road closed to through vehicular traffic will reopen by 3 p.m. today, June 7.
During the week of June 10, the contractor will continue construction of the Urban Trail along the north side of Canyon Road between the tennis courts and the Los Alamos Nature Center driveway.
The shoulder along the north side of Canyon Road in this area is closed. Two lanes of traffic will generally be maintained with flagger operations used when a lane is needed for construction vehicles access to the work area. Vehicles and bicyclists are asked to “share the road” where these shoulder closures are occurring.
Additionally, work will continue within the wooded area by the Canyon Road Tennis Courts. The tennis courts parking lot will be closed for the duration of the construction and utilized as a staging area by the contractor. The tennis court and wallboard are closed. Alternatives for tennis and wallboard can be found at Urban Park, Myrtle Tennis/Pickleball Courts, Piñon Park and Barranca Mesa Park. Activities will include the installation of the precast boardwalk along the east and north sides of the work area and the excavation and construction of the trail alignment from Spruce Street.
Motorists, bicyclists, and pedestrians are advised to use caution around construction activities and avoid entering the work zones. Construction hours are planned from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Friday. Weekend work may be necessary if construction activities during the week are impacted by weather.
