Celebrate National Poetry Month At 2nd Annual Department Of Cultural Affairs Ekphrastic Poetry Reading April 27

NMDCA News:

The New Mexico Department of Cultural Affairs (NMDCA) invites New Mexicans to the National Hispanic Cultural Center (NHCC) for readings of the winning and honorable mention poems from the 2025 DCA Ekphrastic Poetry Contest.

Last fall, NMDCA divisions across New Mexico selected 15 works of art that showcase the best of their collections, giving New Mexico residents an opportunity to respond to each work with an ekphrastic poem. These poems were judged anonymously by a panel of experts, including New Mexico Poet Laureate Lauren Camp, and two winners (one Youth and one Adult) were selected. A full list of winners is available on nmculture.org/poetry.

At 3 p.m. on April 27 at the Salón Ortega at NHCC, the winning poets and those receiving honorable mentions will have an opportunity to read their poems at NHCC. The event is free and open to the public, and light refreshments will be served. Learn more and register HERE.

April is National Poetry Month, and this reading brings New Mexicans across the state together to celebrate their love of artwork and poetry.
