Missy Smith
IBAT News:
The Independent Bankers Association of Texas (IBAT) hosted its Bank Operations Institute (BOI) last week at the Dallas/Fort Worth Airport Marriott.
Los Alamos community banker Missy Smith, Assistant Branch Manager of Century Bank, attended the program Oct. 9-14 and graduated from the 42nd Annual Bank Operations Institute.
BOI is a two-year program that meets each fall for six days. It offers strategic insight into the present and future of banking processes, project management, technology and cybersecurity—with a focus on helping students develop and enhance their managerial competencies around the operations of community banking. Concentration areas include strategic operations, leadership development and compliance education.
The 42nd Annual BOI was taught by noted regulators, bankers, educators and industry professionals with an emphasis on the practical skills needed for effective and profitable operational management. Smith attended the level two program. Twenty-eight community bankers from across Texas and three other states—19 in level one and 9 in level two—attended the program. The program was presented in a series of informative lectures, case studies and interactive class exercises that used simulation models and project management experiential modules as teaching tools.
Topics addressed include how to define different functions and departments within the bank and their integration; regulatory agency reporting, purpose and structure; bank performance analysis; risk management concepts; fraud reduction and cybersecurity techniques; investment and portfolio management; and branching issues, among many other topics. Small classes, high faculty-student interaction, and state-of-the-art visual aids and materials are program highlights.
Sponsors of this year’s program include The Baker Group, Bank Compensation Consulting, Deluxe, Advantage Health Plans Trust, College Ave Student Loans, Fitech by Deluxe, Promontory MortgagePath, Shazam, Adlumin, CalTech, CliftonLarsonAllen, Diebold Nixdorf, EideBailly, Fenimore Kay Harrison, FORVIS, Glory and StreetShares.
