EVHS News:ESPANOLA ― This year, the Española Valley Humane Society celebrates its 25th anniversary May 19 with a benefit concert featuring Charlie Daniels Band at Buffalo Thunder Resort & Casino.
Tickets are on sale now at https://evalleyshelter.org/charlie-daniels-band/. Prior to the concert, ticket holders can enjoy a BBQ dinner at the Resort (not included in the ticket price).
“It’s truly been an eventful 25 years,” Executive Director Bridget Lindquist said. “The Española Valley Humane Society has found forever homes for tens of thousands of dogs, cats, rabbits, ferrets and other assorted animals. To make our quarter-century celebration that much more special, we’ve invited country superstar Charlie Daniels to perform. A portion of ticket sales benefits our mission to reduce the homeless pet population in the Española and Rio Arriba County area where there is one unwanted animal for every 3 households.”
As well, 100 percent of proceeds from sales of a limited number of VIP tickets will go to the organization. VIP ticket holders will have the unique opportunity to meet Charlie Daniels before the concert.
The organization formally began Dec. 19, 1992 as the Northern New Mexico Animal Protection Society. Around 1995, the animal shelter began operating under agreement with the City of Española, and debuted its first logo with the scruffy dog.
In 2006, the nonprofit changed its name to Española Valley Humane Society. This past January, the Humane Society refreshed its logo to what you see today, and updated its website to be able to better feature homeless, adoptable pets, two Santa Fe retail stores (Barkin Attic and Barkin Boutique) and a clinic.
In addition to performing spay/neuter surgeries, providing medical care and adoptions, the Humane Society also conducts rural outreach, free, onsite vaccination clinics, and free transportation of animals to and from the clinic for spay/neuter surgery.
The Society’s goal is to perform 750 free sterilizations from the targeted communities of Santa Clara and Ohkay Owingeh pueblos, and villages of Chimayo, Hernandez and Velarde. The organization recently entered into an agreement with the Pueblo of San Ildefonso for animal spay/neuter/vaccine and shelter services, as well.
