Chart 618: Los Alamos Downgraded From Red To Yellow On Centers For Disease Control And Prevention Map

Today, the CDC released its weekly update to the COVID-19 community level map. The CDC framework designates community level based on diagnoses and hospitalization levels (link). Masks are recommended indoors in counties with the highest, red, community level. Masks are also recommended for at-risk (for example, immunocompromised) individuals in counties with the intermediate, yellow, risk level. Los Alamos (link) moved from red to yellow thanks to a decline in the regional hospitalization rate: the fraction of inpatient beds used by COVID-19 patients went down from 13.5 percent to 9.1 percent, and hence is now below the 10 percent threshold in the CDC framework. However, the number of COVID-19 diagnoses in Los Alamos county went up from 232 weekly cases per 100,000 to 248 per 100,000 and remains above the CDC threshold of 200.
