The Los Alamos County Summer Concert Series presents the excellent Colorado Front Rage group, The Choral Creek Band today, June 2 at Ashley Pond Park. The show starts at 7 p.m. and is free. The weather calls for a clear and nice night. We’re calling for rock and roll!

The Choral Creek Band play high energy shows of bluegrass, newgrass, country-rock, blues, jazz, jamband and unique renditions of traditional and Americana classics. Check them out on www.youtube.com/choralcreekband. You can also check them out at www.choraclecreek.net and at www.gordonssummerconcerts.com.

The best places to catch newgrass and bluegrass are at some of the greatest festivals in America. Go up to Telluride next week or Lyons, Colo., the Strawberry Fest near Yosemite, Calif. or the Merle (Watson) Fest. Have a ball! Choral Creek has played all of these festivals. These cats are hot! Some of the top bands in newgrass music are Leftover Salmon, String Cheese Incident, Sam Bush Band, Railroad Earth and the Yonder Mountain String Band. Do you know of them? Great acts, all. Railroad Earth is one of the headliners in Taos this weekend. The first two albums by Choral Creek were produced by Bill Nershi of Leftover Salmon. Their latest album is produced by Tim Carbone of Railroad Earth.

Most of the band’s original music is written by guitarist/vocalist Chris Thompson. The fiddle player, Luke Bulla is a Grammy winner with Ricky Skaggs and Kentucky Thunder. The keyboard player is Bill Mckay who was in both Leftover Salmon and the Derek Trucks Band. The sax player/vocal is Nathan Peoples. Bass is Bob Garland and Jack Watson on drums. Tremendous musicians but they’re not necessarily bluegrass. Therefore, it’s newgrass. Their live performances often transport their fans from the beaches of the Caribbean, up to the Louisiana bayou, to San Francisco and back up to Colorado Rockies. I surely hope you can make it and enjoy the ride!.

The show is CB FOX Night. This is our way of thanking the Fox family. They’ve been sponsors of our Series for all of our 28 years. Please go in there and thank them, or thank them at the show.
