The magic of the holiday season came alive once again as Central Avenue sparkled with lights during the annual Los Alamos MainStreet Holiday Lights Parade. This year’s celebration, themed “Winter Around the World” took place Saturday evening, bringing the community together to kick off the holiday season with creativity and festive cheer.
The panel of esteemed judges for the parade included Samizdat Bookstore and Tea House owner Jill Lang, Los Alamos Arts Council Executive Director Brandi Engeman, Los Alamos Public Schools Information Officer Connie Goettee and County Councilor Randall Ryti. Together, they evaluated 24 entries from local businesses and organizations, considering effort, creativity and theme portrayal.
Earning top honors was CM Arbor Care with their “Trees Around the World” float, captivating the audience and earning high praise from the judging panel.
The Los Alamos Police Department secured the second spot rolling by in an impressive armored SWAT truck and pulling a “Christmas Island Paradise” float.
In third place, the Elks Lodge rocked out with “Christmas in Brooklyn” courtesy of the Beastie Boys.
The judges also awarded a special G.O.A.T. award to the goat-filled walking float from stable owners at North Mesa Stables.

Los Alamos MainStreet would like to give a special Honorable Mention to DK and the Affordables, who even though they had a few vehicular complications, still completed the parade and continued to rock out in Central Park Square.
