Some people seem to have an incredible knack for finding collectibles and treasures and have dozens of beautiful items they have found in all kinds of places over the years. Catherine Richmond is one such person.

“Two years ago, I started Seeking Chameleon as a desperate measure to manage my rather large collection of fabulous stuff,” Richmond said. “The result has been fantastic.”

Seeking Chameleon is across the parking lot from Smith’s on Sherwood Boulevard in White Rock. From the outside, it’s hard to imagine how many treasures and what a variety of items are housed inside.

Richmond says having the store has been fantastic.

“I have never enjoyed a job as much as I enjoy this one,” she said. “I am constantly treasure seeking, I am meeting all kinds of new people in the community, and I am truly living my dream.”

Seeking Chameleon has everything from mesmerizing heavy glass paperweights to collectible antique medical instruments. Richmond’s collection of paperweights is growing but she says the hunt to find them at a reasonable price can be a challenge.

“People love the swirling colors in the glass orbs and they make such a great gift item for any special occasion,” Richmond said. “I recently acquired a loved collection of egg-shaped glass and several dozen Italian glass fruits.”

Richmond has a surprising assortment of beads in all sizes, shapes and colors. She recently attended the Bead Fest in Santa Fe and brought home thousands more new beads, as well as various charms and other treasures. Her collection includes Hills Tribe silver, Tierra cast pewter, Czech Picasso beads, semi-precious gemstones and Swarovski crystal. Her newly-acquired bright-colored and whimsical Czech sugar skull beads have nearly sold out.
