33rd / 34th Street Road and Utility Improvements

Beginning June 20, the intersection of 33rd and Villa Street will be fully closed. The intersection of 33rd and Villa Street will be fully closed from June 20-23. Residents will need to take the alternate route through 32nd Street, then Walnut Street and back to Villa Street through the 33rd/34th loop.

The closure will take place on 33rd Street from Walnut Street to approximately 500 feet south of the intersection with Villa Street. Villa Street will be closed from the intersection of 34th Street. Please follow traffic control signs and flaggers who will assist with guidance.

This closure is required to complete multiple utility connections and prepare roadway for paving. The intent for the full closures is to be as short as possible during the summer months, while school is not in session.

Additionally, June 20, the utility connection will require a water shut off 9 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

Motorists on Walnut Street might experience minor delays during concrete deliveries.

The County thanks the public for their patience as they make progress on this important construction project.

Utility Work Impacts NM 502 Traffic

Prompted by a recent emergency electric line replacement, utility work along NM 502 continues as the Los Alamos Department of Public Utilities (DPU) installs a new switch and new conductors for the line. To slow drivers, traffic control devices are in the westbound lane from Eastgate Drive to Main Gate Park and the speed limit is reduced for both westbound and eastbound drivers. The work, being done by DPU and contractor Dub-L-EE, is expected to be completed by Thursday, June 22.

Trenching for Electric Continues on Barranca Mesa

DPU is replacing primary underground electric lines and conduit at the eastern end of Barranca Mesa. The project has been extended to continue through June.

DPU’s contractor, Paul Parker Construction Company, is excavating between 410 and 500 Navajo Road and south on Totavi Street. Excavation continues across the intersection of Totavi and Navajo and then through to the end of the Totavi cul-de-sac. Residents in the area should expect sidewalk closures and exercise caution while driving through the work zone. All trenching is on one side of the street.

Non-County Projects:

The following road construction updates are posted below in the interest of keeping residents informed but are being managed or conducted by others. Please obey all traffic devices and slowdown in work zones.

Longview Drive and Sherwood Blvd in White Rock

Kelly Cable of New Mexico will continue work through June 23. Crews are installing fiber from the northwest corner of Longview Drive and Sherwood Blvd heading east. The sidewalk closure will remain in place south of the White Rock Branch Library just west of the Longview/Sherwood intersection. Utility Work and Sidewalk Closure on Camino Redondo & Camino Medio

CableCom, LLC and High 5 Network will be working at 1580 Camino Redondo to bore and trench to replace coaxial cable in 2” conduit. The sidewalk on the west side of Camino Redondo between Cumbres Patio and the southwest corner of Camino Redondo will be closed. Pedestrian traffic will detour to the south side of Camino Redondo. Construction will continue through June 26. Work hours will be 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily. For questions or concerns, contact Chad Guinn at CableCom, LLC at 505.506.5615.

Utility Work on East and West Trinity Drive

Beginning Monday, June 19 Cablecom, LLC in association with Sons Communications, will be boring along the North side of Trinity Drive beginning at 37th Street and continuing toward West Trinity.

There will be a lane shift into the median, westbound on Trinity Drive.

The sidewalk along the north side of Trinity Drive will be closed from 36th Street to the west side of Trinity Drive. Additionally on Diamond Drive, the northbound lanes and bike lane from the intersection of West Road to Canyon Rd. may be impacted. The contractor, Sons Communications will be attempting to accommodate the bike lane and stage their equipment on the right side of the northbound lane. Field modifications to the bike lanes may be necessary, including possibly having to share the road with motorists.
