DP Road Phase II Reconstruction Project Update

- Parking will continue at designated areas south of Ace Hardware and south of the Los Alamos Fire Training Academy. Unless otherwise signed, parking will remain open during construction.

- Follow all work zone signs and exercise caution; flaggers may direct traffic during certain construction events.

Construction Operations:
- Crews will be performing utility tie-ins at individual businesses on the north side of DP Road. TLC and the Department of Public Utilities will continue to coordinate with businesses for any temporary disruptions to utility services.
- Crews will be performing earthwork activities, including cutting grade on DP road in the Eastbound lane from LA Crossfit to the Fire Training Academy. This will include working the roadbed to perform subgrade prep and installing the base course, progressing in approximately 500-ft sections.
- Crews will also excavate and begin installing storm drains on the west end of the project near the Fire Training Academy, working east. This will include excavation for new storm drain inlets. Much of this work will occur south of DP road near a detour and relocated utilities.

Urban Trail Phase I and II Project

Crews will work from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday to Friday.

- Construction of the Trail continues along the north side of Canyon Road between the tennis courts and the Aquatic Center.
- Construction Activities will occur on the Trail along 20th St., through Fuller Lodge Grounds to Spruce Street.
- Flaggers will be used when lane closures are needed for construction vehicles’ access to the work areas.cc
- Work to construct the boardwalk section of the trail will also continue in the wooded area by the Tennis Courts.

Bathtub Row Reconstruction Project
TLC Plumbing & Utility will work from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., Tuesday through Thursday, with the addition of Fridays and weekends, as needed. Residents can expect large equipment, and construction noise.
- Crews will continue preparing for the paving of the Fuller Lodge parking lots and the phase one portion of Bathtub Row, Juniper, and Oppenheimer Drive. Paving for this phase is scheduled to start Monday, Oct. 28 and will be complete prior to Nov. 4.
- Voting access at the Betty Ehart Senior Center will be available Nov. 5 via Central Ave.
- The full road closure will remain in effect at Bathtub Row from Central to Oppenheimer (Mesa Public Library Driveway). Please continue to use the designated pedestrian path for access into and around Fuller Lodge, Museum, and Art Center.

Ice Rink Parking Lot Improvement Project
Franco’s Builder, LLC will begin phase one of the improvements to the Los Alamos County Ice Rink overflow parking lot. Phase one includes sidewalk and railing improvements, retaining walls, and drainage upgrades.
Phase two improvements, scheduled for the spring of 2025, will include regrading and paving the parking lot.
The overflow parking lot will remain closed during both phases of the project. The community can expect large equipment and construction noise. Work hours are 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday.

Replace hardware on 50 water valves in the Quemazon subdivision
DPU’s water crews are proactively replacing the hardware on 50 water valves in Quemazon before this winter to mitigate water line breaks in the area. DPU crews will work on weekends until all 50 are repaired.
Water valve maintenance/repairs are scheduled for the following locations between 8:30 a.m. and 5 p.m. Drivers should expect to see flagging operations to assist traffic flow safely.
o RESCHEDULED for Monday, Oct. 21: intersection of Brisa del Bosque and Tranquillo

Traffic and Streets staff will follow behind to repair the concrete and asphalt disrupted by the water valve repairs. Traffic and Streets will work Monday through Friday, from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. daily. Sections of the sidewalk may be closed for repair, orange barrels may be in the roadway over manholes, and flagging operations may be in place as needed. Minimal traffic interruptions are anticipated.

Overlook Park Irrigation Work Continues
The trail section at Overlook Park between Spirio Soccer Field and Softball Field 3 is closed to all traffic, including pedestrians. This closure is necessary for work on interconnecting the irrigation system with the potable water system as a backup to the reclaimed water that is typically used to water the fields. This work is expected to last into October.

Central Ave. Striping Scheduled for Monday, Oct. 21
County Traffic & Streets has scheduled the striping of Central Ave. from 15th St. to Oppenheimer Drive Monday, Oct. 21, weather permitting. Crews will begin at 9 a.m. and will be finished by 2 p.m. Traffic will only be mildly impacted while striping and the placement of traffic cones at the ends of each stripe to prevent traffic from driving on the wet paint. Central Ave. Closure for Trick-or-Treat on MainStreet Friday, Oct. 25
County Traffic & Streets crews will close Central Ave. from Knecht Street to 20th St. on MainStreet Oct. 25 for Trick-or-Treat. The road closure will begin at 3 p.m. and will reopen at 7 p.m. (the event is 4-6 p.m.).

Non-County Projects:
The following construction projects are not funded by Los Alamos County. Updates are included to keep residents informed of potential traffic impacts. Questions should be directed to the parties identified within each description. Please obey all traffic devices and slowdown in work zones. Hill Apartments: Realignment of 35th Street at Trinity Drive (NM-502)/Pavilion Construction
Phase 1. Completed. Construction activities along the south side of Trinity near the new 35th St. intersection.
Phase 2. Start is yet to be determined. In the coming weeks, a pedestrian crosswalk with a new pedestrian refuge island will be constructed in the center lane of Trinity Drive. Motorists and bicyclists will be asked to share the road. Sidewalk closures will be posted, and pedestrians will be asked to follow the signage and not enter the work zone. Overflow Parking Lot Closure at Fuller Lodge/Mesa Public Library
