Cornell Lab of Ornithology News:

ITHACA, N.Y. — The Cornell Lab of Ornithology is going virtual for its Migration Celebration, hosting a series of free webinars during the week of Sept. 13-19, to mark the incredible southward journey of billions of birds.

This year, the Lab’s Visitor Center is under renovation so an in-person event will not be possible. But that’s good news for anyone across the country thirsty for more bird knowledge.

Have your migration questions addressed by an expert, participate in a bird ID trivia game, and hear about the latest science and conservation actions being taken to help support birds during migration. Register for any and all of the webinars on the Migration Celebration website.

• Shedding Light on Protecting Birds: Research and Recommendations
  12 p.m. (EST) Wednesday, Sept. 13
  A panel of experts will share insights from their research and how their work helps us understand how we can better protect birds.
• Merlin Bird ID Trivia: Fall Migration Edition
  7 p.m. (EST) Thursday, Sept. 14
  Join Cornell Lab of Ornithology for a bird identification trivia game! The Merlin Bird ID app, developed by the Cornell Lab and powered by machine learning, will be put to the test. Can the app outperform an experienced birder and you, the live audience?

  Have you ever wondered what triggers migration, how birds navigate, or the challenges they encounter? Join Cornell Lab of Ornithology for a Q&A featuring the expertise of ornithologist Dr. Kevin J. McGowan. Submit questions in advance when you register or live during the webinar.
