U.S. Rep. Michelle Lujan Grisham“Congresswoman Lujan Grisham is the type of fighter New Mexico needs to help bring jobs to New Mexico and help ensure that the jobs go to New Mexicans,” New Mexico Carpenter Representative Matthew Suarez of Albuquerque said. “New Mexico suffers from a stagnant economy that doesn’t invest in its workforce. Her plans to jumpstart the economy and increase workforce training will provide a pathway for young New Mexicans to obtain good paying jobs in our state instead of leaving for other states. We need a Governor who won’t rest until we’re putting New Mexicans back to work – we know Michelle will be that kind of Governor, which is why we’re proud to be supporting her campaign.”
“I’m honored to have the endorsement of the New Mexico Carpenters Union,” Lujan Grisham said. “New Mexico’s economy needs more trades and vocational workers and when I’m governor we will expand apprenticeship and training programs. The Carpenters are respected for their training programs and excellence in work and will be first-rate partners to grow a skilled workforce across the state.”
Thursday’s endorsement from the Southwest Carpenters follows the endorsements of Lujan Grisham by many other statewide and local unions, including the American Federation of Teachers New Mexico, the New Mexico State Council of Machinists and Aerospace Workers, Ironworkers Local Union 495, IATSE Local 423, the United Association of Plumbers & Pipefitters Local 412, the Teamsters Local 492, the United Food & Commercial Workers Local 1564, the New Mexico Building & Construction Trades Council, The Operating Engineers Local #953, the United Steel Workers, the New Mexico Professional Firefighters Association, the International Union of Painters and Allied Trades Local 823, and the Bakery, Confectionery, Tobacco Workers, and Grain Millers Local 351.
