Council Proclaims Nov. 25 Small Business Saturday

COUNTY News: 

 

Los Alamos County Council presented a proclamation to recognize Saturday, Nov. 25, as being Small Business Saturday. Councilor James Chrobocinski presented to proclamation to Los Alamos Commerce and Development Corporation Executive Director Patrick Sullivan during the meeting.

 

The proclamation read: 

 

WHEREAS: Small, locally-owned businesses in Los Alamos are vital to our county’s economic health; the U.S. Small Business Administration states that small businesses create 65 percent of net new local jobs; and

 

WHEREAS: Some economists state that with every $100 spent at a small local retailer, $68 will return to the community through taxes, payroll and donations to local schools and charities; and

 

WHEREAS: Public awareness of the contributions made by Los Alamos local businesses is key to sustaining a healthy business climate; and

 

WHEREAS: We are grateful to the small businesses of Los Alamos for their generous contributions to the quality of life that we all enjoy; and

 

WHEREAS: Businesses and non-profits can come together to make a difference in Los Alamos County; and

 

WHEREAS: We join American Express and the Los Alamos Chamber of Commerce in supporting America’s locally-owned small businesses;

 

NOW, THEREFORE, on behalf of the Council of the Incorporated County of Los Alamos, I do hereby proclaim Saturday, November 25, 2017 as

 

“SMALL BUSINESS SATURDAY”

 

in Los Alamos County, and urge our citizens to support small businesses and merchants by shopping locally on this day, as well as throughout the year.
