Council Seeks Letters Of Interest For Probate Judge Vacancy

Probate Judge Michael Redondo

COUNTY News:

Los Alamos County Councilors are seeking letters of interest to fill the position of Probate Judge. On Nov.  30, 2023, the Council was informed that the current Judge Michael Redondo would resign effective Feb. 2, 2024. Judge Redondo was elected to the position in the November 2022 General Election.

The County Council is responsible for filling the vacancy left by Redondo’s resignation. Per County Council’s Procedural Rules, the County Manager was asked to advertise for letters of interest, to be submitted for consideration. The successful applicant would finish Judge Redondo’s term, which will end Dec. 31, 2026.

Consideration and appointment of a new Probate Judge has been placed on the Jan. 23, 2024, County Council meeting agenda (6 p.m., Council Chambers, 1000 Central Ave.). The call for letters of interest is now open and letters are due to the County Manager no later than 5 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 17, 2024.

Interested applicants are asked to submit a one- or two-page letter indicating why they would be interested in serving as Probate Judge. Under State law, any qualified person over the age of 18 who is a resident of Los Alamos County may serve. Letters of interest should be emailed to County Manager Steven Lynne at lacmanager@lacnm.us by the deadline. Candidates who submit a letter will be expected to attend the Jan. 23 County Council meeting to respond to questions from the Council about their letter and qualifications.
