County Accepting Applications To Fill BPU Vacancy

COUNTY News:

Los Alamos County is accepting applications through April 30 to fill a position on the Board of Public Utilities (BPU).

Comprising five voting members, the BPU governs the Department of Public Utilities (DPU), a county-owned utility that provides Los Alamos with electric, water, natural gas and wastewater services.

The appointed individual will fill a position to be vacated July 1 due to an expiring term. Applications must be submitted by 11:59 p.m. Friday, April 30.

Interested parties can complete the online application here.

All applications for Los Alamos County Boards and Commissions are now submitted electronically online.  Hard-copies are not available. Those requiring assistance to complete an application should contact DPU staff at 505.662.8136 or kathy.casados@lacnm.us.

Members of the BPU work together with the DPU to serve and represent the interests of the community.  Through policy direction, the BPU guides DPU’s senior management to realize its mission to create a high-performing utility, matched to the community, contributing to its future with diversified and innovative utility solutions.  BPU meetings are 5:30 p.m. every third Wednesday of the month in Council Chambers, 1000 Central Ave.

To qualify for consideration, interested applicants must be 18 years or older, be a resident of Los Alamos County for a minimum of one year prior to appointment, be registered to vote, not hold public office nor be an employee of the County government, and not conduct any business with the DPU except as a consumer.

Note: All Los Alamos County boards shall have more than a simple majority of members registered in the same political party. Current membership consists of two registered Democrats, two registered Republicans and one registered Independent, so members of any party may apply.
