“In many ways, 2021 has been a different and stretching year for our community, as the community shifted gears within the COVID-19 pandemic from response to management of the ongoing crisis,” Lynne said. “It is important to recognize the important work being done in the fight against COVID-19.”

The report also addresses progress being made to increase housing options in the community.

“Significant progress has been made across the County in housing projects under construction” Lynne said. “Combined, these projects will add 473 new housing options to Los Alamos County, with additional projects set to kick-off in 2022.”

Several projects aimed at improving quality of life were completed or made significant progress in 2021 as well. The Piñon Park Splash Pad, Ice Rink and Canyon Rim Trail Underpass have all been completed, and the Leisure Lagoon is scheduled for completion in the first half of 2022.

A variety of infrastructure projects made progress in 2021 as well – most noticeably with the completion of the State Department of Transportation’s NM502 roundabout project and Phase 1 of DP Road. infrastructure improvements. Several new projects were initiated in 2021, and will begin construction in 2022, including the State Road 4/Truck Route Intersection, the Urban Trail Corridor, and the new White Rock Wastewater Treatment Facility.

“Despite the coronavirus impacts encountered by the County, I am proud of our employees and their demonstrated ability to adapt, change, and in some cases, reinvent the way we deliver services, to keep things running smoothly,” Lynne said.
