COUNTY News:
Tuesday, Sept. 26, the Los Alamos County Clerk’s Office will host National Voter Registration Day 2017 events, as part of a massive 50-state effort to register thousands of voters.
Founded in 2012, National Voter Registration Day is designed to create an annual moment when the entire nation focuses on registering Americans to exercise their most basic right – the right to vote. More than 2 million Americans have registered to vote on this day since the inaugural National Voter Registration Day.
“With the 2018 Elections fast approaching, the goal of National Voter Registration Day 2017 is to increase participation by encouraging folks to register to vote and exercise his or her right to be heard at the ballot box,” County Clerk Naomi D. Maestas said. “National Voter Registration Day is the right place to start, by getting registered.”
Thousands of national, state, and local organizations and volunteers will be the driving force behind National Voter Registration Day 2017. Partner organizations will coordinate hundreds of National Voter Registration Day events nationwide and leverage #NationalVoterRegistrationDay on all social media platforms to drive attention to voter registration and the upcoming 2018 Elections.
The Los Alamos County Clerk’s Office is proud to be a National Voter Registration Day partner. Sept. 26, the Clerk’s Office will engage its constituency and community and register voters at the following events: 8-10:30 a.m. at Starbucks, 1801 Central Ave., noon to 6 p.m. in Municipal Building lobby.
The effort’s website, www.NationalVoterRegistrationDay.org, provides a listing of National Voter Registration Day events across the country.
