SANTA FE – New Mexico state health officials have announced this afternoon 227 additional positive tests for COVID-19.

Los Alamos County remains at 6 cases that have tested positive for COVID-19.

Today’s update includes 5 additional deaths reported in New Mexico related to COVID-19.

The New Mexico Department of Health reported today the most recent cases:

  • 15 new cases in Bernalillo County
  • 1 new case in Chaves County
  • 2 new cases in Cibola County
  • 2 new cases in Curry County
  • 3 new cases in Doña Ana County

Aquatic Center Reopens June 8 To Lap Swimming; Reservations Begin Friday

COUNTY News:

The most current Public Health order, issued June 1, 2020, states that “Public swimming pools may open but such facilities are limited to lane-swimming and lessons with up to two students only.” 

As a result, the Walkup Aquatic Center will open beginning June 8, 2020 for lap swimming only for swimmers 13 years and older.

Election Night Results Process Changes Due To Pandemic

ELECTION News:

After the Governor announced May 15 that the ban on mass gatherings would remain in place for the foreseeable future (which the Governor again affirmed June 1, 2020), the Los Alamos County Clerk’s Office made the decision to forgo election night reporting in the Boards and Commission Room, to help mitigate the spread of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

Rather than congregating and waiting for results to be posted, the Clerk’s office will email candidates, local party chairs and media, a PDF document of the results, as they become available from each of the Vote Centers.

Los Alamos County Moves To Level II Fire Restrictions

COUNTY News:

Los Alamos Fire Department Fire Marshal Wendy Servey announced today that she is proceeding to Level II Fire Restrictions for Los Alamos County, effective immediately.

Servey said the decision was made in partnership with LAFD’s Wildland Division after reviewing the potential threat of wildfire.

Traffic Alert: Concrete Repair On Urban/North Road Tuesday

COUNTY News:

Los Alamos County Traffic & Streets Division will begin concrete repair work Tuesday, June 2 on Urban Street and North Road. Crews will be removing and replacing curb & gutter and sidewalk in select locations.

Crews will be working 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily. Weather permitting, work should be completed by mid-June.

The contractor will set up a traffic control to allow for the flow of traffic. Vehicle traffic is urged to slow down and obey all traffic control devices.

Los Alamos County Offering Free Face Masks Wednesday

COUNTY News:

Los Alamos County has a limited supply of free face masks available for those who cannot make their own or are having difficulty obtaining or purchasing masks.  

The County is offering one package per request. Each package contains five cloth masks.

Beginning Wednesday, June 3, Los Alamos citizens or businesses can stop by and pick up their package of free masks outside the closed customer service windows at the Customer Care Center, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, located on the first floor of the Municipal Building at 1000 Central Ave.

Lightning Strike Knocks Out Power To Some 400 Homes In White Rock For More Than Eight Hours Saturday Night

COUNTY News:

Lightning struck a utility pole around 8:30 p.m. Saturday on La Senda in White Rock, causing a major power outage.

The Los Alamos Department of Public Utilities (DPU) estimates that 400 customers west of Sherwood Boulevard and south in the La Senda and Pajarito Acres neighborhoods were without power for more than eight hours.

Working through the night and the storm, DPU’s linemen replaced the pole and fully restored power to all customers by 5 a.m. today.
