The Los Alamos County Council this evening selected Councilor Rick Reiss to serve as its chair for 2016 and Councilor Susan O’Leary vice chair. 

Reiss was appointed by Council Sept. 6, 2012 to fill a vacant unexpired term and elected in 2014 for another term. He is a local small businessman and real estate developer.

The Los Alamos County Council will hold its first public meeting of 2016 at 7 p.m., Tuesday in Council Chambers at 1000 Central Ave.

The Council also is meeting in closed session at 6 p.m. Tuesday.

The first order of business at Tuesday’s meeting is to elect a new council chair and vice chair to serve for the next 12 months.

Excavation Work Begins On County’s West Plaza

Residents and downtown businesses will see some excavation work occurring in the Los Alamos County Municipal Building’s west plaza over the next few weeks at 1000 Central Ave.

This  work will be conducted by artist Eric Thelander and his contractor(s) to prepare the area for installation of the base of “Solar Tree” – an 18-ft. tall sculpture being installed in the plaza as part of the County’s public art collection.

The Board of Public Utilities meets at 2  p.m. today in Council Chambers to approve an amendment to the agreement with AESI-US for $246,000 to develop an Internal North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC) Reliability Compliance Program to meet the Critical Infrastructure Protection (CIP) Version 5 requirements and provide additional training and support in preparing compliance evidence.

NERC is the regulatory authority with jurisdiction for electric production and transmission systems that are part of the Los Alamos Power Pool (LAPP).  Read More
