Friends Of The Shelter Mobile Adoption Saturday

The Los Alamos Friends of the Shelter is sponsoring a Mobile Pet Adoption 8 a.m. to noon, Saturday near the Los Alamos High School Gymnasium as part of the Annual Health Fair.
Community members are invited to stop by to meet great dogs hoping to find a home with a special person or family.

Letter to the Editor: Asking Cat Owner To Sign Surrender Paperwork At Shelter

Whoever dropped off this very sweet elderly gentleman cat at the door of the Los Alamos County Animal Shelter the night of Sept. 18 or morning of Sept. 19, we are asking the former owner to please come in to the shelter and sign surrender paperwork.
Without that signature, we cannot consider this cat to be county property, get him vetted, and place him for adoption ASAP. The shelter is very crowded, and the only way we can keep our euthanasia rate low is to keep our adoption rate high.
We are not a no-kill shelter, and we try to move our animals into good homes as quickly as possible. Read More

Change to Atomic City Transit Route 12

Effective Monday, Sept. 22, Atomic City Transit will implement changes to the current Route 12 (Bandelier Shuttle).
This route will no longer travel down Grand Canyon Drive to Rover Boulevard through residential areas and back to the Visitor Center on N.M. 4 in White Rock. The new route will include a stop at N.M. 4 and Sherwood and then turn south at Bonnie View with one stop on this street and turn east on Longview with two stops on Longview and then connect back to Rover and N.M. 4 to end at the White Rock Visitor Center.

The Pajarito Astronomers will hold a County-Sponsored Dark Night starting at 7 p.m. (sunset) Saturday, Sept. 27 at Spirio Soccer Field, Overlook Park.
Weather permitting, the public is invited to come out, wander among the telescopes and star gaze.
A crescent moon as well as the planets Mercury, Mars, Saturn (and its rings), Neptune and Uranus will be visible. There will be a tour of the summer and fall constellations, and there will be telescope views of double stars, star clusters, nebulae and galaxies.

Road Work Moves West Along Central – Oppenheimer Is Closed
Oppenheimer Drive is closed this morning as the Central Avenue Improvements Project construction work moves along to the west. Starting today, Oppenheimer Drive between Trinity Drive and Central Avenue will be closed to traffic in both directions. Vehicles and pedestrians will be detoured to 20th Street. Motorists should use alternate business parking including parking lots along Deacon, 15th Street, 20th Street and Nectar. Oppenheimer will remain closed through Oct. 31.
