Los Alamos Police Collect 332 lbs. of Prescription Drugs At Take-Back Event Saturday

LAPD News:

The Los Alamos Police Department conducted its bi-annual DEA prescription drug take back initiative Saturday, April 27.

LAPD conducted two location sites for the first time this year, one at Los Alamos Medical Center and the second at the public library in White Rock.

The total weight of collected drugs was 332 pounds.

Evening commuters to White Rock encountered a fountain of water shooting up over six feet into the air at the intersection of N.M. 4 near the Truck Route.

A Department of Public Utilities crew was on scene and preliminary reports indicate that they will be working through the night to make repairs.

April 18 at 10:45 a.m. / An 18-year-old Los Alamos woman reported that someone burglarized her vehicle parked in the 100 block of Verde Ridge. The estimated loss is unknown.

April 19 at 11 a.m. / A 33-year-old Los Alamos man reported that he was the victim of larceny in the 3000 block of Ridgeway Drive. The estimated loss is less than $2,500.

DPU Charter Review Committee Meets May 6

COUNTY News:

The Department of Public Utilities Charter Review Committee’s next meeting will be at 5:30 p.m. Monday, May 6 in the Training Room of the Community Building.

The Committee meets every other Monday to continue their review of the Utilities’ section of the County’s charter.

Otis is a friendly, young, handsome tabby who is spending time checking out his new surroundings at the shelter.

He likes toys but does not seem to be aggressive with them and would do well with adults, gentle children and gentle cats.

Property Tax Bills Delinquent After May 10

COUNTY News:

The second-half installment of the 2012 Property Tax Bills became due Wednesday, April 10 and will be considered delinquent after Friday, May 10. 

Payment must either be made in person at the 311 Customer Care Center by 5 p.m. May 10 or postmarked by midnight that same day to avoid late payment penalty and interest charges. 

The 311 Customer Care Center at 150 Central Park Square is open 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Over the next few weeks, you will see some changes at Mesa Public Library as plans get underway to improve the area in front of the library. 

Beginning May 1, the road in front of the library will be closed while crews make library drive into a one-way street, running from Oppenheimer Drive toward Fuller Lodge, as well as install a new, larger drive-up book drop. Improvements to sidewalks and crosswalks also are planned.

Eastern Area 2 Concrete, Paving & Utility Project – Phase 2

Canyon Road is closed to through traffic between 9th Street and 15th Street. Local motorists can expect daytime flagging operations in this area with minor delays. Two-way traffic will be restored in the evenings and weekends when work is not occurring.

The contractor will begin removal of sidewalk, curb, and gutter on the west side of Canyon Road, leaving the concrete intact on the east side of the road for pedestrian use.

Construction to Close Connection Between Library Lots

The Mesa Public Library Safety Improvements project is gearing up to start the week of April 29.

The road between the main parking lot (near Oppenheimer Drive) and the overflow parking lot (where Farmers’ Market is held) will be closed for the next six to eight weeks. Access to the west parking lot is available from Oppenheimer Drive, and access to the overflow parking lot is available from Bathtub Row.
