Small Business Owners Question Economic Vitality Administrator

“Small businesses form the backbone of any vibrant community and we realize the unique challenges faced by small business in Los Alamos and want to help,” County Administrator Harry Burgess said.
Los Alamos County hosted a question and answer session for small businesses last week. Business owners were provided an opportunity to ask questions of Economic Vitality Administrator Greg Fisher.

County officials share activities that indicate the long-awaited Trinity Site Revitalization Project is in fact underway.
“Smith’s is very proactive in moving this project forward,” said Director Anne Laurant of the County’s Capital Projects & Facilities Department. “They are scheduling preliminary meetings for January for site plan approval from the Planning and Zoning Commission and will be submitting for building permits.” Read More
Residents Reminded to Keep Sidewalks Clear
COUNTY News:
During the winter months, the County would like to remind residents that it is important to keep sidewalks clear of snow and ice so that they remain passable for postal workers, children walking to school and others who need to use them.
When possible, and depending upon available resources, County crews will conduct sidewalk-clearing operations by removing snow first from the adopted “safe routes to school” and then move to other selected sidewalks. The County does not clear every sidewalk due to limited resources.

Motorists Urged to Stay Home Today
LAPD News:
With this morning’s snowstorm creating dangerous conditions on local roadways, Los Alamos Police are urging motorists to stay home if possible.
Police report that so far they have not encountered vehicle accidents but they are inundated with reports of vehicles stuck in the snow.
County Clarifies Today’s Facility Closure Information
All County facilities close at noon today including the Administrative Offices, the 311 Center, plus County recreation/community centers such as the Aquatic Center, Los Alamos Golf Course, the Ice Rink and the Los Alamos and White Rock public libraries.
Transit will make its last transit run at noon to White Rock, Barr Mesa, North Mesa, etc., with no additional Transit services after that last noon time run.
Trash trucks will complete trash pick up but not recycle pick up today. The Eco Station closes at noon. Read More

County Trash Collection Continues Today
COUNTY News:
The Los Alamos County Environmental Services Department reports that its trucks are out collecting trash right now and intend to continue doing so as long as the roads are passable.
However, recycle pickup is canceled today. Anyone with a full bin needing to be picked up prior to next Friday is encouraged to call 505-662-8163 and the Environmental Services Department will organize a special pickup. Read More

County Survey Results Now Available – LA Daily Post Leads Online News Sources
COUNTY News:
Los Alamos County’s bi-annual citizen survey results are now available for the public to review on the News page of the County’s website at www.losalamosnm.us.
In addition, copies for public review are available at the 311 Customer Care Center located at 150 Central Park Square or at the reference desk of either public library.
The firm under contract to conduct the County’s survey was CRC & Associates, LLC. They randomly selected approximately 400 County residents to participate in a 20-minute phone survey or street interview.

Water Main Break on Trinity Drive Repaired

Eastbound traffic was reduced to one lane Wednesday on Trinity Drive in the vicinity of 37 Street following a water main break.
The break was reported around 8 p.m. Tuesday. In frigid temperatures, gas, water and sewer crews with the Los Alamos Department of Public Utilities worked through the night and into the early morning to dig up the 12-inch line and complete repairs by 7:30 a.m. Wednesday, with no loss of water to residents.

Public Weighs in on N.M. 502 Improvements
Audience members at tonight’s County Council meeting at which several spoke during public comment on the N.M. 502 Improvements Project. Frustration was expressed with traffic noise and the endurance of road construction for extended years. A woman asked that trucks be made to take the truck route to lessen the traffic noise to homeowners.
