Los Alamos County Invites Community To Swearing-In Ceremony For Elected Officials Wednesday Dec. 18

COUNTY News:

Los Alamos County invites the community to attend a swearing-in ceremony for newly elected and returning elected officials at 5 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 18.

The event will take place in the Council Chambers at 1000 Central Ave. in downtown Los Alamos.

The following officials will be sworn in:

    • Ryn Herrmann, Beverly Neal-Clinton and David W. Reagor.
  • Los Alamos County Clerk:

Los Alamos County Records Office To Reopen Monday

COUNTY News:

The Los Alamos County Records and Information Management (RIM) Office will reopen for business 9 a.m. Monday, Dec. 9.

The physical office at 1000 Central Ave., Suite 190 in the Municipal Building, has been closed since early October to allow Public Works to complete emergency utility infrastructure repairs.

During the closure, the RIM staff continued to work remotely, ensuring that records requests were processed in accordance with the New Mexico Inspection of Public Records Act (IPRA).

Los Alamos County Library Board December Update

COUNTY News:

For many, the end of the year is a time of reflection, and the Library is no different. At the December board meeting, Library Manager Gwen Kalavaza gave an update on the Library’s Strategic Plan 2024-2027, which is based on the Community Services Integrated Master Plan.

The Library has made significant progress toward its goals, including the addition of Hindi materials to the collection, online access to the Wall Street Journal, and coordination with Social Services to offer drop-in evening hours at both libraries.

Plans for Los Alamos County to purchase the properties at 1183, 1377 and 1399 Diamond Drive were shot down during the regular County Council meeting Tuesday night.

The motion to purchase the Diamond Drive properties for approximately $9.8 million failed to pass 5-2; Council Chair Denise Derkacs and Councilor Keith Lepsch voted in favor.

Aquatic Center Closure Dec. 20 For Staff Christmas Party

COUNTY News:

The Los Alamos County Aquatic Center will be closed 1-3 p.m. Friday, Dec. 20, 2024, for a staff Christmas party.

This temporary closure includes the Main Pool, Therapy Pool and Leisure Lagoon.

All other lessons and programs scheduled outside of the closure will proceed as planned.

Regular operations will resume at 3 p.m. Dec. 20.

Council Declines Purchase Of Diamond Drive Property

COUNTY News:

In a vote of 5-2 at Tuesday night’s meeting, the Los Alamos County Council declined to purchase the property under consideration on Diamond Drive across from Los Alamos High School.

Councilors Theresa Cull, Melanee Hand, Suzie Havemann, Randall Ryti and David Reagor voted against the purchase, while Denise Derkacs and Keith Lepsch voted for it.

Recount Underway In Derkacs Vs. Reagor Council Race

Election workers are performing a mandated recount this morning of votes cast in the Nov. 5 election for Los Alamos County councilors Denise Derkacs and David Reagor. Los Alamos County Clerk Naomi Maestas explained that a recount is required after the New Mexico Secretary of State notified the New Mexico State Canvassing Board on Nov. 26 that the canvass of returns from the Nov. 5 election race between Reagor and Derkacs resulted in a margin of .74 percent.
