C’YA News:

Today, Champions of Youth Ambitions (C’YA) celebrates its 10th anniversary at a gathering at SALA Event Center. The local non-profit will reveal some exciting things after the event is underway. The Los Alamos Daily Post gets the privilege of revealing the new logo today following a communitywide contest held earlier this year.

Joey McCulloch was a young student at the Los Alamos Youth Activity Centers (YAC) when Bernadette  Lauritzen was hired as the Activities Coordinator, before becoming the Interim YAC Director.

“Joey comes from a pretty spectacular family,” Lauritzen said. “Parents all hope they empower their children to be kind, compassionate and enjoy life. This family demonstrates love of family, faith and community.”

Now a Los Alamos High School student, McCulloch has been selected as the winner of the new C’YA logo competition after a communitywide search. McCulloch learned about it in the Los Alamos Daily Post and thought it would be a great way to show his art to the community and hopefully make a little money.

“I was extremely happy to win and even more happy when I was told they wanted to use both of my designs,” McCulloch said. “I personally did not have high hopes towards winning because I know that there are many talented young artists in this town that I would have to compete with.”

McCulloch was inspired by looking at other logos for brands like North Face and Patagonia. He liked the bright color schemes and circular designs.

McCulloch has a bright future as this week he completes his sophomore year and heads on to his junior year.
