Los Alamos Public Schools (LAPS) Superintendent Jennifer Guy issued comment regarding this week’s  dismissal of Hilltoppers Head Boys Basketball Coach Benito Maestas and JV Coach Paul Herrera. Six players have quit the team since the season began.

D.J. Bustos has been named head coach and Dominick Roybal assistant coach.

“Los Alamos Public Schools made the difficult decision to change the boys basketball coaching staff. I am appreciative of the time and effort that former coaches Maestas and Herrera have given to LAPS players,” Superintendent Guy said. “I wish them well as they move on to new things. I am confident that Coach Bustos and Coach Roybal will lead the boys through a successful season.” 

She expressed her congratulations to the boys on their win over Aztec last night and her appreciation to the way both players and parents have come together to support this team through the coaching staff  transition.

“As a district, we remain committed to maintaining high expectations for both staff and students to ensure that all of our students are successful and safe,” Superintendent Guy said. “I am looking forward to a great season.”
