Visit the Los Alamos Nature Center at 7 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 15 to learn more about Bandelier National Monument’s long-term bird banding program.

Bandelier bird biologists Keegan Tranquillo and Sarah Milligan and international intern Dulce Flores will give an overview of the program and discuss why it is important to monitor wildlife. This talk is free to attend and is open to the public.

The presenters will discuss why birds play an important role in monitoring environmental changes, why birds migrate and trends that have been observed through the bird banding program at Bandelier.

About the Presenters:

Keegan Tranquillo is the lead bird bander for Bandelier’s project. He has been banding for 10 years throughout the United States and internationally. He loves being outdoors as much as possible and hiked his first 14er in September!

Dulce Flores is the international intern on the project this year. She came to Los Alamos from Mexico City and had never been out of Mexico before this year! She operates a crocodile conservation area to rescue crocodiles and teach locals how to live with them.

Sarah Milligan has been a biologist at Bandelier National Monument since 2015. She manages the bird banding program for the park and also enjoys working with mammals and other wildlife.
