Highlights From School Board Retreat And Training Session

LAPS News:
The Los Alamos School Board met Thursday, July 22 in the School Board Room and on Zoom for a School Board Retreat and Training.
The meeting began with the appointment of Erin Green to fill a board vacancy representing District 5 through Dec. 31. Board members said Green brings a wide range of diversity and fresh perspective to the board.
“I am so grateful to the board for selecting me and the community for supporting me,” Green said.
She was sworn in by the Honorable Judge Elizabeth Allen.
The board also unanimously appointed board member Christine Bernstein secretary.

As students prepare to return to school, the New Mexico Public Education Department (NMPED) shares COVID-safe practices in effect and outlined in the updated NMPED Toolkit.
HERE’S WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
Everyone in elementary schools regardless of vaccination status are required to wear a mask while:
- in a school building;
- on school transportation; and
- or at an indoor school-sponsored event.
Secondary school students, staff and volunteers who are fully vaccinated and provide documentation of full vaccination are not required to wear masks.

School Access Improves For New Mexico Military Families

CANNON AIR FORCE BASE — A coalition of Air Force bases and state agencies were awarded for their efforts July 19, 2021 to improve early school access for more than 243,000 military-connected students and veterans in New Mexico.

The Los Alamos School Board met Tuesday, July 13 on Zoom and in the School Board Room. President Melanie Colgan opened the meeting by recognizing the COVID vaccination team of Los Alamos County Emergency Manager Beverley Simpson and Nambe Drugs owners Tom and Francis Lovett, as well as Medical Associates of Northern New Mexico and Smith’s Pharmacy. They held 29 vaccination clinics, of which 23 were hosted on school property. Los Alamos has an 89 percent vaccination rate. Read More
School Board Appoints Erin Green To Fill Vacancy

In a unanimous vote, the Los Alamos School Board this evening chose Erin Green to fill the District 5 seat, left vacant when Dawn Jalbert resigned from the Board.
Green will serve out the rest of Jalbert’s term, which ends Dec. 31, 2021. She will need to run for election in November if she wishes to retain the seat.
