Los Alamos Public Schools On 2-Hour Delay Thursday

Los Alamos Public Schools (LAPS) will be on a 2-hour delay on Thursday, Dec. 4 due to winter weather conditions. We already have a lot of ice accumulating on walkways and in parking lots.

There is more moisture expected through the night and temperatures will remain below freezing. This delay will give our crews time to make sure parking lots and sidewalks are clear and safe for staff and students.

Los Alamos Faith and Science Forum News:

The Los Alamos Faith and Science Forum will meet on Tuesday, Dec. 9, at the Los Alamos Unitarian Church.

A light meal will be served at 6 p.m., to be followed at 6:30 p.m. by a presentation and elections of board members.

The presentation is entitled “The miracle of Life” and will draw upon new insights into presentations given this past summer.

UC Riverside Study Shows Drying Soils Emit Less Nitrogen Than Expected

Scientists have long warned that rising global temperatures would force forest soils to leak more nitrogen gas into the air, further increasing both pollution and warming while robbing trees of an essential growth factor. But a new study challenges these assumptions.

Alpha Zeta Adopt-A-Family Program Seeks Local Sponsors

Alpha Zeta, a local Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi, is collaborating with local schools to identify families who could use a little extra love over the holiday season. Their Adopt-A-Family program for 2025 has received 54 applications, with 13 families looking for sponsors.

Families who remain include families with grandparents in the home, single parents with multiple children, and single-child families. The biggest family remaining is a family of seven, and the smallest is a family of two.
