UNM-LA is pleased to welcome Dr. Hans-Peder Hanson a core faculty member in Classics and as the Program Coordinator in General Studies. Hanson earned his Ph.D. in Classics from the University of Washington, with a focus on ancient Greek and Latin literature. He also teaches Latin at Los Alamos High School.

It’s back to school time. For many of us parents, we say, thank God.
This is also the time of the year when we say goodbye to the leisurely summer traffic, and start sharing the road with hurried parents, new teen drivers, student pedestrians and school buses.
Not only do we want to send our kids off to school safely each day, but it is equally important that each of us make it to and from work safely. Why not start this school year by sharing the following safety tips from the National Safety Council:

Time out for Pizza sponsored a STEM Solar Smores project, for National Smores Day Friday at the Los Alamos and White Rock Youth Activity Centers. This Friday the DWI Council and Rotary Stars will host a special event for Los Alamos Middle School students 6-9 p.m. at the Los Alamos Youth Center. UNM News:Police Officers Issue Back To School Safety Reminder
LAPD News:
The Los Alamos Police Department would like to take a moment and remind motorists that school starts Thursday, Aug. 16.
Police officers will be out in school zones for traffic enforcement to ensure that all students, parents and staff are safe as the community transitions into another school year.
LAPD also reminds motorists to stop for school buses when their red lights are flashing, and students are loading and unloading. This pertains to traffic traveling in both directions.

Wallace is the 11th director of Los Alamos National Laboratory and president of Los Alamos National Security, LLC.
