New Mexico State Police Arrest High School Teacher For Illegal Relations With Female Students

AZTEC ― New Mexico State Police Investigations Bureau was contacted in June by the New Mexico Public Education Department (PED) to investigate evidence resulting from a licensure investigation, which indicated that an Aztec High School teacher had an illegal sexual relationship with at least one female high school student.

The evidence and statements turned over by PED indicated that high school math and philosophy teacher James Dee Coulter, 31, of Aztec had an illicit sexual relationship with at least one 17-year-old female student.

LAPS: First Day Of School Update

On the first day of school, we welcomed 3,737 students to the 2018-2019 school year for the Los Alamos Public Schools.

Enrollment is on an upward trend. We are fortunate to have a highly-qualified teacher in all classrooms. In addition, every school has at least one guidance counselor, nurse and resource specialist.

Safety University was held last week to help prepare for the start of school. Principals and staff around the district reported that they valued the time to focus on safety and talk about issues specific to their work place

Police Officers Issue Back To School Safety Reminder

The Los Alamos Police Department would like to take a moment and remind motorists that school starts Thursday, Aug. 16.

Police officers will be out in school zones for traffic enforcement to ensure that all students, parents and staff are safe as the community transitions into another school year.

LAPD also reminds motorists to stop for school buses when their red lights are flashing, and students are loading and unloading. This pertains to traffic traveling in both directions.
