Española — Northern New Mexico College has resolved a lawsuit over the development of dormitories on the College campus.
The College agreed to pay a developer $126,500 to settle the developer’s claims for unpaid invoices. The agreement completely resolves all issues between Northern and the developer. Northern’s President Rick Bailey said that the College “obtained an advantageous settlement of the dispute, and we are pleased to put it behind us.”

Scholarships Available For Medical Students In Los Alamos And Rio Arriba Counties
SCHOLARSHIP News:
Scholarship funds are available through the generosity of the John and Willie Mae Helm Scholarship Fund and the Los Alamos Medical Society for students who will be enrolled in medical school in fall 2018.
Students are eligible to apply if they are residents of Los Alamos County or Rio Arriba counties, or have spent the majority of their lives as residents of Los Alamos or Rio Arriba Counties. Applicants are required to write a letter about their medical school background, to fill out a scholarship application form, and to send an official copy of their medical school transcript. Read More

High School Students Tour Santa Fe Opera Campus
Area high school students had the privilege of touring the Santa Fe Opera campus Tuesday. They were given an extensive behind-the-scenes tour that included the costume department (including a sneak preview of the costumes for Candide), the props department, and the practice rooms. This was followed by lunch on the patio at SFO’s cantina and a concluding tour of the lower practice studios and rehearsal theaters. The students will attend a performance of Dr. Atomic in August. Starting in the 2018-19 school year, Los Alamos Public Schools will be one of the 11 school districts in the state to receive funding for a startup New Mexico PreKindergarten program.
New Mexico PreK is a voluntary program created by the Pre-Kindergarten Act of 2005 and is jointly administered by the Public Education Department and the Children, Youth, and Families Department.
