NMSA Hosts Tribute Concert For Mara Robinson

SANTA FE New Mexico School for the Arts will celebrate one of its long-time supporters, Mara Robinson, with an evening of Classical, Romantic, and Baroque music, honoring Mara for her unending contributions to the music program at NMSA, as well as music education in Santa Fe and throughout the Southwest.
 
Robinson and her late husband Charles were long-time patrons of the arts, arts education, and the well-being of children and youth in New Mexico. In January 2014, they were memorialized as “Living New Mexico Treasures” by the New Mexico House of Representatives.

Governor Announcing Plans To Bring High-Speed Internet To Every Classroom

BERNALILLO — Today, Gov. Susana Martinez will announce plans to bring high-speed Internet access to every school in New Mexico.

Currently, more than 30 percent of New Mexico’s schools do not have access to high-speed Internet.

Panel Discussion On Women In Science Thursday

Are women in science achieving their goals in careers and research today? Attend the panel discussion at 7 p.m., Thursday, October 15, at Mesa Public Library and hear what three women who work in science and engineering have to say about the topic.

The program is held in conjunction with Ada Lovelace Day celebrations at the Los Alamos County Library System. Ada Lovelace is considered the first computer programmer because of her work with Charles Babbage on an analytical machine.

NNMC Awarded NIH BUILD Grant; Partners With UTEP

ESPANOLA  Northern New Mexico College has been awarded a National Institutes of Health grant in partnership with University of Texas-El Paso (UTEP) to offer students biomedical research opportunities in the field of neurophysiology — the study of how the nervous system functions. 

The funding will allow for laboratory training, mentoring and professional development, as well as housing and travel to study with fellow students and faculty at UTEP.

For the first year ever, UNM-LA will be stop #6 along the Los Alamos Artist Studio Tour (LAAST). Fine art students’ drawings, paintings, and ceramics will be on display and for sale to the public.

2015 Studio Tour is 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 17 and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 18, with 20 artists’ studios open across the city.

Ride The Bus Wednesday … Help LAPS

LAPS News:

Los Alamos Public Schools is once again asking the community for help.

Oct. 14 is the 40th day of school and this means that the Public Education Department counts for all eligible students who are on the bus that day to calculate  transportation funding for LAPS for the year.

All eligible students who ride at least once Oct 14 will be given a certificate for a free ice cream cone. Last year students helped to increase LAPS funding for transportation by $122,000 dollars!!
