Café Scientifique Explores Algae Biofuels
CAFE SCIENTIFIQUE News:
Teens are invited to Café Scientifique Thursday, Feb. 6 featuring a discussion about algae biofuels. The presenter is Jose Olivares from Los Alamos National Laboratory.
The Cafe is held at the Los Alamos Research Park (second floor conference room.) Free food is served at 6:45 p.m. followed at 7-8:30 p.m. by a talk and hands-on activity.
Olivares grew up in a small village outside of Madrid, Spain, one of seven children. His father owned a small hotel and restaurant.

Kiwanis Awards 43 Science Prizes

Seven Kiwanis judges plowed through hundreds of entries and selected 43 winners in four hours at the Los Alamos Science Fair Saturday, Jan. 25, awarding $1,505 in prize money.
Roger Stutz, Science Fair Committee chairman for Kiwanis, said those who joined him in judging this year were Don Casperson, Kurt Deshayes, Fran Berting, Paul Cunningham, Dennis Gill and Robert Weldon.

Saturday was a big day for the Los Alamos Middle School Hawk FIRST Tech Challenge (FTC) robotics team, competing against 11 other teams and winning the FTC Southern Colorado Qualifier.
