Nathan Lang Receives Los Alamos Garden Club Scholarship

The Los Alamos Garden Club Scholarship has awarded a $500 scholarship, in memory of Erla Mae Larson, to Nathan Lang of Los Alamos.
Lang will attend UNM in the fall and plans to major in Biology or Biomedicine.
He has been on the cross country team for four years, has been a down hill skier at Pajarito Mountain for six years and since 2012, has worked on computers for the New Mexico Consortium building.
He said that a brief experience helping the homeless in Denver opened his eyes to the number of “needy around us.”

Barranca Elementary Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) is holding a Bobcat Pizza Day Wednesday, May 15 through Papa Murphy’s Pizza.
On that day only, Papa Murphy’s will donate $1 for each pizza ordered to the Barranca Elementary PTO.
The PTO uses these and other fundraising events to support the teachers and the school.
The PTO gives each teacher a stipend at the beginning of every school year, which allows them to purchase extra supplies for their classooms without having to spend their own money on those supplies.

Math Competition Winner Earns Funds for LAHS
Alex Wang presented a $1,000 check Tuesday, April 30, to the Math Department of Los Alamos High School. Wang, a sophomore at LAHS, placed third in the national competition, ‘Who Wants to Be a Mathematician’ and as a result of his achievement, the school was awarded $1,000. Barranca Mesa Elementary School Principal Pamela Miller has been selected as Curriculum and Instruction Coordinator for Los Alamos Public Schools.
Miller brings a wealth of national experience to her new role in curriculum. During her many years in public education, she served in both the Indianapolis Public Schools and the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools.

The Los Alamos School Board has scheduled an Executive Session at 8 a.m. Saturday at the Town Hall in White Rock to discuss certified and classified negotiations of the collective bargaining agreements per Section 10-15-1-H(5) of the Open Meetings Act.

Los Alamos Lacrosse Season Driving into State Playoffs

The Los Alamos High School Lacrosse team plays its last regular season home game at 4:30 pm. this Friday at Overlook Park in White Rock (Dara Jones Field) against Bosque Prep.
The season has played out very well with a 6-3 record against its league opponents.
The team is currently tied with Bosque for 2nd place, which will be determined by Friday’s game. Quarter final games will be played next week. Los Alamos hopes to advance to the semi-finals May 9 and the championships Saturday, May 11, both to be held at Sandia Prep in Albuquerque.

Ann Stewart Named Girls Basketball Head Coach
LAHS News:
Los Alamos High School Athletic Department announces that Ann Stewart has been named Head Coach of the Girls Basketball Program.
In January of 2013, Stewart took over the Head Girls position on an interim basis after Coach Tarah Logan’s resignation.
The team finished 17-13 overall and 5-3 in district and the girls earned a trip to the State Tournament.
They defeated Deming in the first round before losing to the State Champion Los Lunas in the quarterfinals of the State Tournament.
