Los Alamos High School Student Council members organized a special Friday night candlelight vigil in memory of the victims of the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting in Newtown. Conn.
About 50 people gathered in the cold at Ashley Pond Park to honor the children, teachers and administration staff who lost their lives in the terrible tragedy.

Jessie Zhao, a senior at Los Alamos High School (LAHS), was recently honored as Rotary Student of the Month for December.
Zhao is the daughter of Shaoping Chu and Xinxin Zhao and sister of William and Steven Zhao.

Atomic City Transit Streamlines Little Forest Playschool Field Trips

Atomic City Transit makes it easy for preschool classes to take simple field trips around town.
The students of Little Forest Playschool are seasoned bus riders. During the summer they go on at least one field trip a week and have taken the bus to the pool, the library, Ashley Pond, the Farmer’s Market and other places in Los Alamos.
In late November the students arrived at school, walked to the bus stop on 38th Street and Villa and did their morning stretches while waiting for the number 6 to arrive.

“I think I am one of the more qualified people to take on this post. Jemez Valley artist Betsie Miller-Kusz was the guest speaker at an induction ceremony Dec. 7 for 34 new Los Alamos High School members of the National Art Honor Society.
Miller-Kusz was born in Los Alamos and lived and painted in San Francisco, Calif., for many years. She has exhibited internationally and painted many public murals.

Students Register to Vote at LAHS
Robert Van Lysell celebrated his 18th birthday Thursday by registering to vote with assistance from the Los Alamos League of Women Voters.
