Los Alamos Federated Republican Women Meet Thursday

The Los Alamos Federated Republican Women (LAFRW) meet Thursday, March 12 at Time-Out Pizzeria in the downstairs meeting room.

The business meeting begins promptly at 6 p.m., and any registered Republican women are invited to attend. 

Attendees may arrive at 5:30 p.m. to get food and settle in. Parking is in back.

Senate Bill 57 Supporting Families With Pets Signed Into Law

STATE News:

SANTA FE — Senate Bill 57, providing funds for a low-cost pet spay and neuter program, was signed Friday by Gov.r Michelle Lujan Grisham.

Sponsored by Sen. Jacob Candelaria (D-Albuquerque) and Rep. Joanne Ferrary (D-Las Cruces), Senate Bill 57 covers costs of spay and neuter services for lower-income families looking to take care of their pets, as well as delivers funds to struggling animal shelters around the state.

Senate Bill 57 becomes effective July 1.

WASHINGTON (March 10, 2020) – U.S. Sen. Martin Heinrich (D-N.M.) is supporting new, emergency paid sick leave legislation to provide paid sick days immediately to workers in light of the coronavirus crisis, and in preparation for future public health emergencies.

This emergency paid sick days legislation requires all employers to allow workers to accrue seven days of paid sick leave and to provide an additional 14 days available immediately in the event of any public health emergency, including the current coronavirus crisis.

New Mexico Governor Signs Five More Bills Monday

Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham signed five bills into law Monday, including legislation that authorizes New Mexico law enforcement to apprehend traffickers of endangered wildlife.

Senate Bill 75 makes it a misdemeanor to knowingly buy or sell animal species or part of any species covered by Appendix 1 of the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora.

The law sets up penalties of up to $10,000 or three times the value of the product. Owners of antiques or heirlooms containing ivory or parts from other endangered animals are not affected Read More

LANL Supplement Analysis To Environmental Impact Statement Available For 45-Day Public Comment Period

DOE/NNSA News:

The Department of Energy’s National Nuclear Security Administration (DOE/NNSA) has posted for public comment a draft Supplement Analysis to the 2008 Site-wide Environmental Impact Statement (SWEIS) for Continued Operations of Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL).

The document examines whether the environmental impacts associated with expanded plutonium pit production at LANL require preparation of a new or supplemental EIS for LANL.
