Letter To The Editor: SGR Endorses Christine Bernstein

By STEPHANIE GARCIA RICHARD
Commissioner of Public Lands

I voted today!

But unfortunately, because of my district, I didn’t get to vote for one of my favorite candidates for school board. However, if you live in District 3, you have the chance to vote for Christine Bernstein for LAPS School Board.

I first met Christine when we were both teachers at Pojoaque Schools. She is an innovative, committed and passionate high school teacher and I know she will bring just as much energy to the school board as she does to the classroom. I’ve witnessed her in action and seen the way she always

Letter To The Editor: Response To Importance Of Political Parties

By DENNIS LITTLE
Los ALamos

Mr. Kerr,

Perhaps I’m in the minority, I’m not sure and I’ve never seen a study to confirm. I was raised by a single mother who wasn’t political at all. To the best of my knowledge, she never voted in her life. In any case, I would hope that most people in a town with so many smart people would do their own research and decide who and/or what political party to vote for rather than just depending on what their parents said to do.

With regards to the rest of your letter, I disagree.

The House (with a Democratic majority) has passed a great number of bills, Read More

Letter To The Editor: Importance Of Political Parties

By VERNON N. KERR
Los Alamos

Why do I belong to a political party?

We can pick a reason but most likely the reason is that the party we pick is the one our parents belong to. A political party usually represents the values of the home. Chances are that if grandpa and pop were Democrats, you are, too. There is not a lot of hard thinking involved in registering in a political party.

In the beginning of our nation, our first leader, George Washington was opposed to political parties because he felt that they would lead to non-productive political bickering and divert energy away from

Letter To The Editor: I Believe We Are A Town That Values Education … Vote Yes For School Bond

By DAVID LYONS
Committee member
Los Alamos School Bond Election Committee

When my wife and I decided to move back to White Rock with our two young children more than a decade ago, I knew one thing for certain: Our kids would receive a great education. A White Rock native, I grew up in the Los Alamos Public School system, going first to Chamisa Elementary and then to the Middle and High Schools. I knew first-hand the high quality of education here and was excited to know that our kids would benefit from the same. And they have.

We’ve been fortunate that our kids have had great experiences all the way through Read More

Letter To The Editor: Pleasure To Support Bernstein

By TRAVIS RICHINS
LAHS Class of 2013

It is my pleasure to write in support of Chris Bernstein for a position on the Los Alamos Public School Board.

I attended Los Alamos school system from kindergarten to 12th grade, and ultimately graduated in May of 2013. During my time at Los Alamos High School I had the pleasure of getting to know Mrs. Bernstein, or Mrs. B as we called her.

I cannot over-stress the point that she was the most influential teacher in my high school years. She exhibits extraordinary passion while teaching, but more importantly, she cares for her students as people. She not only pays Read More

By GLEN THAMERT
Jemez Springs

Republican Governor Mark Sanford of South Carolina is a serious conservative. He wants DT (Trump) to be voted out in 2020. He says the USA and the interest on our debt must be addressed, since it is more than our Military budget and more than what our country spends in all areas for Children – our future.

So where is massive spending going, which comes from our taxpayers’ dollars? Here’s a few items which address the problem:

  • The outlandish prison in Guantanamo, Cuba – since 2002 – wastes $180 Million annually and
