Letter To The Editor: Worthy Woman

By DICK and NANCY BOUDRIE
Los Alamos

We usually don’t write an opinion letter to the newspaper. After receiving a derogatory flyer in the mail against Christine Chandler, we decided to write an opinion supporting Christine Chandler for the New Mexico House Dist. 43.

Christine and I (Nancy) worked together on two cases at the Los Alamos National Laboratory, and I found her excellent in working with the facts and picking out the truth for a fair, legal decision. Christine has always listened, weighed the facts and worked hard for the people of Los Alamos.

As with all community issues, there are always Read More

Nesmith: When Will True Republicans Take A Stand?

By JAMES L. NESMITH
Los Alamos

I fail to understand why the Republican Party of Los Alamos has not repudiated and disavowed Lisa Shin’s candidacy for State House District 43. Her campaign employs some of the most vitriolic, hateful, unethical, shameful, misleading, disgraceful and immoral tactics that I’ve seen in my 72 years.

Her false statements, her misleading and phony “Los Alamos Post” newspaper mailer as well as her most recent mailer (a nearly classic example of morally contaminated and corrupt political chicanery), her lack of knowledge of veteran affairs, her total Read More

Letter To The Editor: Time For A Qualified Judge

By JON DOORN
Los Alamos High School Senior

I strongly encourage Los Alamos Voters to vote for Elizabeth Allen as municipal court judge. She is the only candidate that has law credentials, and she has plenty of experience involving what the municipal court handles. She has been running her own law firm for over 10 years and has shown her commitment to our community through her involvement in the Los Alamos Teen Court.

I first met Elizabeth three years ago when I joined the Los Alamos Teen Court as a freshman. For readers who are not familiar with Teen Court, it is a system where teens who commit misdemeanors Read More

Pajarito Conservation Alliance interview of Sara Scott (D), candidate for Los Alamos County Council:

PCA: What do you believe makes Los Alamos County special?

Scott: The outdoors is really one of the big things that kept me here after coming here. I think a lot of people that have come and stayed here are drawn to that.

Clearly, the science is for me a great part of who we are. It just pervades, with friendships, and the things that the community has to offer. I don’t know, it’s just very unique. I don’t know of any town that has that.

Letter To The Editor: Please Vote For Judge Alan Kirk!

By MORRIS PONGRATZ
Los Alamos County Council

I urge the voters of Los Alamos County to re-elect Judge Alan Kirk. Alan is seeking his sixth four-year term as Municipal Judge. Alan has lived in Los Alamos for 60 years and served as Los Alamos Police Chief before becoming a judge. Many times, the voters of Los Alamos have endorsed Alan for his outstanding service to our community.

Others have also recognized Alan’s judgement and vision. The New Mexico Supreme Court appointed him to the State Judicial Information Oversight Board and to the Chief Judges Council, which has representation

Robinson: Voice For The Youth

By JAMES ROBINSON
Democratic Candidate
Los Alamos County Council

I recently had the honor to once again participate in the League of Women Voters of Los Alamos Candidate Forum. At the event, many subjects were discussed including the Flow Trial and the Gross Receipts Tax from our laboratory.

However, that evening, all the candidates were asked about what we considered Los Alamos’ most significant resource, and how would we utilize it as councilor’s or how would we develop it. Although I began with the discussion of our local boards and commissions, I followed up with our youth.

Valles Caldera is the largest land acquisition in New Mexico made through the Land and Water Conservation Fund (LWCF), one of the primary tools for protecting our national and local parks and public lands. PCA: What do you believe makes Los Alamos County special?

Trujillo Voss: I think what makes us special is that we weren’t meant to be a town, but we’re still a town. We’re growing, and the diversity of people here from different backgrounds, different cultures that come together. It’s small, unique.

I just went to an iris exchange over at the Unitarian Church. I think there’s a lot of different

Letter To The Editor: Christine Chandler Cares

By CRISTINA OLDS
Los Alamos

You may have just read my name and thought, “Hm, who’s that?” The answer is, no one in particular, and that’s why I’m writing.

I was no one to the County Councilors when I emailed them about the sheriff issue, about the immigration proclamation, and about the flow trail. Christine Chandler warmly reached out to meet for coffee and discuss the myriad angles of each issue, despite me being no one of importance.

Christine has consistently offered her deep knowledge on a number of topics that relate to the County when my progressive activism group, Voices of Los Alamos, has Read More
