As we all know, New Mexico has a serious problem with its education system. This impacts not only the   lives and futures of the children themselves, but the ability of our state economy to thrive in a highly competitive atmosphere. Christine Read More

By Jill Hutchinson-Bass
Santa Fe Teacher

I am a proud Aggie and Lobo! I graduated from New Mexico State University in 1991, the same university my paternal grandparents graduated from as teachers in the 1920’s. After I got my BA in education, I earned a master’s in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of New Mexico. Still, I struggled as a new teacher, starting out with so little time in the field.

There were things I wished I knew how to do better, such as valuing the cultural context of English Language Learners and building better relationships with students and families,

By Janie O’Rourke
Los Alamos

I am writing in support of Christine Chandler for Seat 43 in the New Mexico House of Representatives.

But in addition, Christine also is capable of listening to all sides, and open to new ideas and new solutions that make sense.

Christine brings years of important experience in both the professional, as well Read More

Shin: No Need For Financial Pain To Expand Pre-K

By LISA SHIN
GOP Candidate
NM House Dist. 43

Expanding pre-K access is a positive step forward for New Mexico’s children. Research shows the benefits of early education, especially for “high risk” kids living with poverty, abuse, and neglect. Chris Chandler says that “there may be financial pain” (link) involved with raiding our Land Grant Permanent Fund or raising taxes to fund more public pre-K.  In the 2019 legislative session, there will undoubtedly be another push for a constitutional amendment to do just that, with the end goal of a “universal pre-K”
