ALBUQUERQUE — Gov. Susana Martinez today signed into law New Mexico’s state budget for the 2019 fiscal year.
The $6.3 billion spending plan provides for raises for police officers, teachers, and bolsters New Mexico’s cash reserves to nearly 10 percent.

Businessman Javier Sanchez was elected mayor of Española Tuesday night by an overwhelming margin.
The Española City Clerk has released unofficial results for the 2018 municipal elections. It shows voters elected Sanchez by nearly 54 percent in a three-candidate race.
Sanchez, who declined to state his political party, moved to the Española Valley more than 20 years ago. He co-owns La Cocina Restaurant in Española.
