Letter To The Editor: Jeorg On The Bureaucracy

Dr. T. DOUGLAS REILLY
Los Alamos

I spent almost 3 years on a Change of Station at DOE in Washington, DC. While there I worked as much with the State Department and other agencies related to nonproliferation and arms control. I offer this as a reply to Mr. Mead’s excellent opinion piece in Thursday’s Los Alamos Daily Post (link).

While there I had several conversations and meals with a former LANL colleague who’d worked many years in government and was then the Chief Scientist-Deputy Director of the On Site Inspection Agency (OSIA). I remember well a conversation regarding the Read More

Spencer: I’ll Retire To Bedlam

By KHAL SPENCER
Los Alamos

Ebenezer Scrooge, in Charles Dickens memorable novella, uttered the equally memorable phrase “I’ll retire to Bedlam” when he thought everyone he was talking to had gone nuts. In the wake of the Parkland, Florida shooting, I wonder if its time to do the same.

While NRA Exec. Director Wayne LaPierre gave a speech at the Conservative Political Action Conference that would have left Bedlam inmates feeling quite sane, Democrats in Ohio wrote a bill that would, if passed, define innocuous, 22 rimfire rifles from the ninteen-sixties such as the Marlin Read More

Sheehey: Advocating For Los Alamos At Roundhouse

By PETE SHEEHEY
Los Alamos County Councilor

I spent a good deal of time this year at the 2018 State Legislative Session, working on behalf of the people of Los Alamos and neighboring communities. As a member of the County Council’s Regional and State Subcommittee, I helped develop our state legislative agenda, which was approved by the whole Council last December.

In addition to issues that we watch carefully every year, such as funding for local public education and capital improvement grants (we did receive $100,000 for affordable housing), our agenda included two items of special

By STEPHANIE NAKLEH
Los Alamos

When it comes to gun violence, we can hardly keep up with the news. One deadly shooting follows another, and there’s no appetite for change in our GOP-led, NRA-bought Congress.

But in all that bad news, I want to focus on our local representatives who are fighting for gun sense. Senators Tom Udall and Martin Heinrich have publicly stood up to the NRA’s dangerous priority legislation known as “Concealed Carry Reciprocity”, which would gut state gun laws, forcing New Mexico to accept the concealed-carry standards of every other state—making it easy Read More
