EVTA News:
The Embudo Valley Tutoring Association (EVTA) is seeking tutors in reading and math for high-need elementary school students in the Española Independent School District
EVTA is seeking committed, retired professionals interested in helping uplift local students, many of whom are a year or two behind their class.
Tutoring for 2025-26 School Year:
- EVTA is seeking people with education or tutoring experience are encouraged to apply; however, EVTA is interested in talking with any degree-holding person who desires to work with students. EVTA provides training.
- The best, long-term tutors have been dedicated retirees; their contribution has been invaluable in the communities.
- The main requirement is to have a good working rapport with children up to 6th grade, and an interest in helping them develop their skills and self-confidence to succeed in higher learning.
- EVTA has made it one of its main goals to support children with reading disabilities who cannot get the one-on-one support they need in their school
- EVTA is putting out a special call to any retired teachers with knowledge and skills in this area. EVTA has all the materials needed and can provide support.
- Compensation: $19-$21/hour
How assignments are made:
- EVTA provides tutoring at the students’ school site
- EVTA coordinates between the student’s schedule and the prospective tutor’s availability.
Duties and responsibilities:
- Each student must receive at least two full sessions per week (45 min.-1 hour).
- All positions are part-time – tutors may work 2 days per week or 4 days per week, 2-4 hours a day, depending on their preference.
- EVTA requires that new tutors make a minimum commitment to work at least one school year.
- A background check by the school district is required.

- The Embudo Valley Tutoring Association (EVTA) is a 501 C (3) nonprofit organization, operating since 2004. It provides free tutoring services in reading/language and math to high-need elementary students in several schools in EISD. All funding comes from grants or donations.
