WASHINGTON, D.C. – On Monday, U.S. Secretary of Energy Ernest Moniz will receive the Jit Trainor Award at an event hosted by Georgetown University’s Institute for the Study of Diplomacy.
At the event, he will deliver remarks on the science behind the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) with Iran and why the JCPOA is one of the strongest nonproliferation agreements in history.

The Secretary will highlight the scientific and technical merits of the deal and explain why the United States can be confident that Iran’s breakout time to a nuclear weapon has been extended to at least one year. He also will touch on the important role that science-based diplomacy played in the negotiations of the JCPOA and the equally important role it can play in the future.
The Secretary’s remarks will be followed by a discussion and Q&A session with Ambassador Thomas R. Pickering, former U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations and current Career Ambassador.
