The chairman of the powerful Senate Finance Committee is firing back at the New Mexico Environment Department over a request for more funds, claiming its appeal to increase the Air Quality Bureau’s budget may violate state law.

NPS News:
A water line break just outside of Bandelier National Park along New Mexico State Highway 4 between White Rock and the Truck Route has temporarily closed Bandelier’s Tsankawi Unit. Los Alamos County utility workers have now isolated the leak and are currently working on repairs. Work is estimated to take at least two days.
A similar issue caused Tsankawi to temporarily close Friday, Jan. 10. It had reopened one week later.

Daily Postcard: A raven soars across the sky above Valle Grande Jan. 15 at Valles Caldera National Preserve. Valles Caldera National Preserve is home to 196 species of birds. A recent Natural Resource Condition Assessment by the National Park Service determined that ponderosa pine forests are the preferred habitat for 35% of these bird species, which means that areas like History Grove, Banco Bonito and El Cajete Trail are fantastic places to go birdwatching in the park.
