Daily Postcard: This long-tailed weasel spotted Wednesday perched between two rocks at Valles Caldera National Preserve is a tiny but scrappy mammal. This mighty mustelid primarily eats lizards, small birds and rodents, but occasionally it will prey on animals larger than itself, lending to its reputation as a ferocious hunter. - Cause: Lightning
- Vegetation: The wildfire is burning in ponderosa pine, pinyon-juniper, and oak.

This Mohave (correction Prairie) Rattlesnake was encountered this morning near the rodeo grounds on North Mesa. It blended in with the surroundings but the photographer spotted it.
