Pajarito Mountain Ski Area Extends Season To March 31

PAJARITO News:

New Mexico winter has been good to Pajarito Mountain in Los Alamos … in fact so good that the ski area has extended its season to include March 30-31. The ski area was planning to close March 24.

Pajarito has received 110” of snowfall so far this season, nearly 100 percent of average snowpack for the year according to OpenSnow.

Benedictine Monastery Lake Reopens For Fishing

PECOS — After a winter closure, the Benedictine Monastery Lake, near the village of Pecos, will be freshly stocked with trout and reopen for fishing at 10 a.m., Tuesday, March 5.

New Mexico Becomes Fourth State To Enact Clean Fuel Standards As Governor Signs Legislation

SANTA FE — Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham Tuesday signed House Bill 41, Clean Transportation Fuel Standards, into law. New Mexico is the fourth state in the nation to enact the standards.

HB41 allows producers and importers of low-carbon transportation fuels to generate clean fuel credits to sell to producers and importers of high-carbon transportation fuels. HB41 then directs the emissions of transportation fuels in New Mexico to decrease over time.

National Park Service Completes Bandelier National Monument Air Tour Management Plan

BANDELIER NATIONAL MONUMENT — The National Park Service (NPS) and the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) have completed an air tour management plan for Bandelier National Monument.

The plan prohibits commercial air tours over the park and within one-half mile outside its boundary to protect natural and cultural resources, sacred Tribal places, wilderness areas, and visitor experiences.

There are some fishing areas in Northeast New Mexico that opened March 1 for the 2024 season.

Morphy Lake State Park, Clayton Lake State Park and the Charette Lakes will open for fishing. The Charette Lakes should be good for some nice, holdover trout. The Charette Lakes also have yellow perch. There should also be some holdover trout at Morphy Lake, including some cutthroat trout.

Groundwater monitoring studies began in 1945 at Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL). Today, workers collect nearly 2,300 groundwater samples annually. The groundwater samples are collected from a network of more than 200 monitoring wells located on LANL, Pueblo de San Ildefonso, Los Alamos County and Santa Fe County property.
