SILVER CITY — The Gila National Forest (GNF) announced its decision Thursday to undertake the removal of feral (unbranded and unauthorized) cattle from the Gila Wilderness in partnership with USDA Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service Wildlife Services (Wildlife Services).

Purgatory Ski Resort Reports 33 Inches In 48 Hours

Purgatory News:

Purgatory was the big winner of this week’s storms, with 25 inches of snow in the last 24 hours and a total of 33 inches in 48 hours. Purgatory has received more than 200 inches of snow so far this season and more snow is expected next week.

Purgatory is looking forward to the upcoming holiday weekend with epic snow conditions and a full event lineup, including free gear demos at the Telemark Festival, live music, drinks, giveaways, night tubing and plenty of family-friendly activities.

VCNP Backcountry Vehicle Passes Now On Recreation.gov

NPS News:

JEMEZ SPRINGS Backcountry vehicle passes for the upcoming summer season are now available on Recreation.gov.

Reservations can be made now for May 15 through May 31.

Future batches will be released on the first of each month. For a detailed list of release dates, visit the park’s Backcountry Experience web page. Any passes that have not been reserved will still be available for day-of reservations. In addition, all visitors on foot, bike, or horse can continue into the backcountry.

Update: All Non-essential County Facilities Have Closed

COUNTY News:

Los Alamos County Manager Steven Lynne has ordered the closure of all non-essential county government facilities and operations today, Feb. 15, due to hazardous weather conditions.

Among the non-essential facilities closed today are aquatic center, ice rink, libraries and golf course.

County officials note that the Atomic City Transit fixed route and para transit services will be suspended today, however, on-demand transportation service will be provided 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Call ACT 505.661.7433 to schedule any transportation requests.

Los Alamos Public Schools Announces Snow Day!

LAPS News:

Los Alamos Public Schools (LAPS) is closed today, Feb. 15, due to inclement weather conditions.

More snow is predicted this morning and LAPS cannot safely clear snow and ice before students arrive. LAPS also is not able to drive all bus routes. 

All classes are canceled. 

All after school programs including athletics (both home and away contests) and activities are canceled.
