News Alert:
A reader just alerted the Los Alamos Daily Post that she just spotted a “fair sized” black bear amble across her neighbor’s yard and up the hill between their houses.
She wants to warn residents that it is ‘garbage night’ in Quemazon and that is buffet time for the bears.

Human-Caused Lumberton Fire Burns 100 Acres
EMNRD-Forestry Division News:
The Lumberton Fire started just before noon Sunday and is burning on private land off Highway 64, east of Lumberton in Rio Arriba County.
The fire is threatening approximately four homes, two of which have been evacuated.
The human-caused fire is moving toward Jicarilla Apache Tribal Lands. Gusting wind with speeds up to 29 miles per hour has been fueling the fire. Fuels include Ponderosa pine and brush.

Three of the 9 finalists in the 2020 Supercomputing Challenge held virtually April 28 were from Los Alamos High school.
Twenty New Mexico schools participated including two from Los Alamos, 36 teams competed including five from Los Alamos, 27 awards were presented, and nine scholarships were awarded.

State stay-at-home orders and social distancing related to COVID-19 have closed Bureau of Land Management (BLM) long-term mustang holding facilities to the public.
The agency said operators of Public Off-Range Pastures (PORPs) continue to care for the animals there. Still, some wild horse advocates argue that the lack of public scrutiny is not in the horses’ interests.
